What is Plume?

Not every financial product fits well within the free and experimental world of DeFi. While flexibility is often an advantage, there are also applications where fixed agreements, clear terms and predictability are central.

Plume Network is a blockchain network specifically designed for these kinds of applications. It focuses on real-world assets (RWAs): tokens that are linked to existing financial products, such as bond funds, fixed-term credit products, or on-chain variants of interest-bearing instruments.

Instead of functioning as a general smart contract chain, Plume opts for a more targeted approach. The network is built with financial products in mind that have additional constraints, such as access rules, fixed agreements on interest rates and duration, and information that originates off-chain.

That focus makes Plume better aligned with applications where clarity and structure are important.

How does Plume work?

Plume functions as a standalone blockchain on which applications can run that work with real-world assets. Developers build here, for example, applications for loans, interest products, or marketplaces for tokenized assets.

The difference with a general smart contract chain is that Plume already offers some of the prerequisites at the protocol level. Things like:

  • Who may participate
  • which agreements apply (for example interest rate or term)
  • and what external information is needed

therefore need to be set up less frequently per application.

For users this means that many choices are predetermined, such as who can participate and under what conditions. As a result, an RWA app works less like a freely configurable DeFi protocol and more like a financial product with fixed arrangements.

The PLUME token

PLUME is the native token of the Plume network and forms the economic basis of the blockchain.

The token is used for:

  • the payment of transaction fees
  • Participation in network processes such as staking and governance
  • incentives within the ecosystem

The maximum supply is 10 billion PLUME. PLUME does not represent a real-world asset itself, but is needed to use and secure the network.

The technology behind Plume

Plume’s technology is tailored to financial applications where some of the important information originates off‐chain. Think of interest rates, maturities, or the status of an underlying asset. The network is designed to allow this kind of external data to be consistently incorporated into smart contracts.

Plume provides standard building blocks for financial applications. Developers can work with predefined agreements on interest and amortization, access rules, and data integrations, without having to set up these elements each time. This contributes to RWA applications that are less reliant on custom solutions and therefore function more stably and predictably.

Plume is EVM-compatible, which means that developers can deploy existing Ethereum tools and smart contracts relatively easily within the network. This allows Plume to align with familiar development practices and lowers the barrier for teams that already have experience within the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Plume ecosystem

The Plume ecosystem focuses primarily on applications such as:

  • Tokenization of real-world assets
  • Loans and fixed-term interest products
  • Financial applications

The emphasis is on building a solid infrastructure for RWA applications, with reusable tooling and rules.

Benefits of Plume

  • Specifically designed for real-world assets (RWAs)
  • Own Layer-1
  • Suitable for applications with predefined conditions

Disadvantages of Plume

  • Less suitable for general DeFi applications
  • More complex matter than standard token apps
  • Highly dependent on adoption by RWA projects

Who are the founders of Plume?

Plume was founded by a team of experienced builders in blockchain, DeFi and real-world asset tokenization. The three co-founders are Chris Yin, Eugene Y. Q. Shen and Teddy Pornprinya.
