What is Sentient?
Sentient is a crypto-AI project that wants to build an open ecosystem for artificial intelligence. Instead of one central AI model that decides everything, Sentient tries to create a network in which multiple AI models, agents and data sources collaborate.
The idea behind it is simple: a lot of AI development today takes place at a small number of large companies. Sentient wants to turn that around. Builders, researchers and users should be able to contribute to AI models and be rewarded when their work is used.
The core of the system is called the GRID. It is a network of AI building blocks: models, agents, data, and tools that together perform tasks. Instead of a single model doing everything, a query is split into multiple steps that are executed by different components.
For users, this comes together in products such as Sentient Chat. This is an interface through which you use the GRID. Sentient therefore does not focus on a single standalone AI app, but on an infrastructure layer on which multiple AI products can run.
How does Sentient work?
Sentient is all about contributing and rewarding. Builders can add components to the GRID. These can be AI agents, datasets, models, or tools that help solve tasks.
When a user submits a question through a connected app, that task is split into smaller steps. Various agents and models work together to arrive at a result. Think of searching, reasoning, combining data, and summarizing.
Sentient then tries to tie rewards to actual usage. The idea is to reward measurable contributions. If an agent or model is used frequently and delivers value, that should be reflected in the system’s incentives.
The SENT token
SENT is the token of the Sentient ecosystem. It is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. The token has three main functions within the protocol.
Staking and coordination
Users can stake SENT on parts of the GRID, such as agents or tools. That staking can affect how rewards are distributed within the ecosystem.
Governance
SENT is used within the Sentient DAO. Whoever stakes tokens gains voting weight for decisions on emissions, treasury expenditures and protocol adjustments.
Use within the ecosystem
SENT can be used for payments or access to certain services within the network, depending on how apps implement it.
The total supply is set at 34,359,738,368 SENT.
The technology behind Sentient
Sentient combines AI software with crypto. The GRID functions as an orchestration layer. Questions are analyzed, split up, and forwarded to the appropriate combination of models and agents. ROMA is an important framework in this context: it helps break down complex tasks into subtasks and then recombine the results.
Furthermore, Sentient focuses on techniques to make open AI usable and monetizable. For example, model fingerprinting can, in certain cases, demonstrate where a model comes from. That helps with attribution and building fair reward structures.
The blockchain itself is mainly used for staking, governance, and incentives. The AI models do not run on Ethereum; the chain is used to organize coordination and rewards transparently.
The Sentient ecosystem
Sentient consists of several components:
- The GRID (network of agents, models and data)
- Sentient Chat (user interface)
- ROMA (multi-agent framework)
- Open tools such as Open Deep Search
- Staking and reward mechanisms via SENT
- Governance via the Sentient DAO
The value of the ecosystem depends on adoption: the more builders and users participate, the stronger the network can become.
