Ethereum Proof of Work (ETHW) nu live verhandelbaar op BLOX

Ethereum gaat over van Proof of Work naar Proof of Stake. Dit heeft geen invloed op de fondsen in je BLOX kluis. Je kunt gedurende deze periode gewoon blijven handelen in Ethereum.

Ethereum gaat over naar Proof of Stake

Er komt een nieuw tijdperk aan voor Ethereum: de Merge. Dit zal er kort gezegd voor zorgen dat de blockchain van Ethereum niet meer wordt beveiligd door miners (een protocol wat men Proof of Work noemt), maar hoe dan wel?

Binnenkort zal Ethereum beveiligd worden door ‘stakers’ (zeg: steekers). Dit protocol noemt men Proof of Stake. Je zou de Merge kunnen vergelijken met een motorwissel in een auto. Er verandert enkel iets onder de motorkap, maar als bestuurder van het voertuig merk je hier verder weinig van.

Wanneer is de Merge?

De Merge is gepland in de vroege ochtend van donderdag 15 september. Het zal zeer waarschijnlijk plaatsvinden tussen 6:00 en 9:00 uur.

Ik bezit Ethereum in mijn BLOX kluis, wat nu?

Ethereum-houders zullen vrij weinig van de Merge meekrijgen. Het heeft geen invloed op je fondsen. Als het aan ons ligt kun je gedurende de Merge ook gewoon in ETH blijven handelen. Op bepaalde punten zijn we afhankelijk van derde partijen, dus mocht dat een probleem vormen, dan hoor je dat zo snel mogelijk.

Houd er wel rekening mee dat een evenement als de Merge van invloed kan zijn op de koers. Het zou dus kunnen dat de koers na de overgang naar Proof of Stake een snelle beweging omhoog of omlaag zal maken. Het is daarom belangrijk dat je alleen met bedragen handelt waar jij je comfortabel bij voelt.

Is er nog iets anders wat ik moet weten over de Merge?

Er verandert dus niks voor jou, maar het is belangrijk om te weten dat de miners van Ethereum zodadelijk ‘overbodig’ worden. Zij willen daarom mogelijk een alternatief om te blijven minen. De kans bestaat dat zij - na de Merge - een blockchain van Ethereum op Proof of Work maken.

Dit heeft geen invloed op jouw Ethereum, maar ze zullen daarbij wel een ‘Ethereum Proof of Work’-coin (ETHW) maken. We kunnen van tevoren niet beloven dat we deze coin ook lanceren. Mocht deze coin ontstaan, zullen wij te zijner tijd beoordelen of deze nieuwe coin voldoet aan onze eisen. We houden je uiteraard op de hoogte.

Ethereum Proof of Work (ETHW) now tradable on BLOX

The 'Ethereum Proof of Work' coin can now be found in the BLOX app and this coin is immediately tradable. ETH holders will see that they have already received ETHW from this new blockchain. The token balances were copied, so all people who had ETH in their vaults at the time of the fork received the same number of ETHW.

BREAKING: Ethereum has switched to Proof of Stake with the Merge

The Merge - as this transition from PoW to PoS is called - has been delayed several times, but now it has finally happened! Ethereum has just switched to another protocol. You can read what exactly that means below.

In brief

Ethereum is transitioning from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake. This will not affect the funds in your BLOX vault. You can continue to trade Ethereum as usual during this period.

Ethereum switches to Proof of Stake

A new era is coming for Ethereum: the Merge. This will, in short, ensure that Ethereum's blockchain is no longer secured by miners (a protocol called Proof of Work), but how?

Soon Ethereum will be secured by 'stakers' (with a protocol called Proof of Stake). You could compare the Merge to an engine change in a car. The only thing that changes is under the hood, but as the driver of the vehicle, you don't notice much change.

When is the Merge?

The Merge is scheduled in the early morning of Thursday, Sept. 15. It will most likely take place between 6:00 am and 9:00 am.

I own Ethereum in my BLOX vault, now what?

Ethereum holders will experience fairly little of the Merge. It won't affect your funds. As far as we are concerned, you can continue to trade ETH as usual during the Merge. We are dependent on third parties on certain issues, so should that be a problem, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Please keep in mind that an event like the Merge can affect the stock price. So it could be that the stock price will make a quick move up or down after the transition to Proof of Stake. Therefore, it is important that you only trade with amounts that you feel comfortable with.

Is there anything else I should know about the Merge?

Nothing changes for you, but it is important to know that Ethereum's miners will soon become 'redundant'. They may therefore want an alternative to continue mining. There is a chance that - after the Merge - they will create a blockchain of Ethereum on Proof of Work.

This will not affect your Ethereum, but they will create an 'Ethereum Proof of Work' coin (ETHW) in the process. We cannot promise in advance that we will launch this coin. Should this coin emerge, we will assess in due course whether this new coin meets our requirements. We will of course keep you informed.
